Official NFHS HS Weight Classes (14 Classes)
A contestant may compete in their qualified weight class or bump up a maximum of one weight class above their certified weight. Bumping up two weight classes is an illegal substitution resulting in bout forfeiture.
When teams compete on consecutive days (e.g. Friday dual followed by Saturday invitational), a +1.0 lb allowance is granted for each consecutive day of competition, capped at a maximum of +2.0 lbs.
Most state high school associations (PIAA, OHSAA, CIF, NYSPHSAA) grant a mandatory +2.0 lb growth allowance around December 25th or January 1st to accommodate adolescent athlete growth.

The 14 official NFHS national weight classes are: 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, and 285 lbs.

Can a wrestler bump up two weight classes in a dual meet?
No. Under NFHS Rule 4-4-2, an athlete is only permitted to wrestle in their certified weight class or bump up a maximum of one weight class. Bumping up two weight classes is an illegal substitution resulting in an immediate forfeit.
How does the consecutive-day weight allowance work?
Under NFHS Rule 4-5-5, when teams compete on back-to-back days (such as a dual meet on Friday followed by a Saturday tournament), a 1-pound allowance is granted for each consecutive day of competition, up to a maximum of 2 pounds.
What is the 2-pound growth allowance in wrestling?
Most state athletic associations grant an automatic 2-pound growth allowance on December 25th or January 1st to account for natural adolescent growth during the winter season. Once in effect, each weight class increases by 2 pounds (e.g. 106 becomes 108).
